I bought this SD card to IDE converter in order to install a Windows XP operating system on it so one of my file servers could run more quietly. Its old HDD was getting pretty noisy and I feared it was soon be none operational.

Since a Windows XP installation doesn't require a lot of space (relatively) and I had a 4GB unused SD X133 speed SD card I decided to order one of these interface converters on E-Bay. 

The installation process was smooth and well , but What I didn't know is that a X133 sd card was not fast enough to run Windows XP and that is why every time I ran Windows after the installation process – the operating system either hanged or crashed showing me a nice BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death).

After checking out the prices of a X300 or a X266 cards I quickly abandoned the idea installing Windows on my current card or buying a faster one. X 133 speed is parallel to 20MB\s and since Windows Os needs a minimum of at least 45 Mb\ps – it was not fast enough.

After doing a little research on the web I found out that It was fast enough for installing Kubuntu on it. So I did , but again , even inside a Kubuntu environment the system hanged from time to time and it was not stable enough to run as a server , even as  file server.

Here are the system specifications:

CPU - Intel Pentium 4 at 1.7Ghz

RAM - 512MB SDRAM at 133Mhz

Mainboard – ECS , P4VXASD2 with a VIA chipset (P4X266 – VT8753)

Eventually I decided to use this product as a storage only interface and not to run an operating system on it.
